China’s currency is the Renminbi (RMB) usually called the Yuan. 10 Jiao make up 1 Yuan. The exchange rate fluctuates daily but is approximately CAD$1 = CNY¥6

China is the world’s most populous country with a population in excess of 1.2 billion (nearly one fifth of the total world population)

Religion The 4 main religions in China are Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity and Islam

Electricity
Standard electrical current in China is 220 volts. Most 4-5star hotels in China are wired for both 110 and 220 volt appliances, however most sockets will require the use of a two prong adapter

Tipping
Tipping is not customary in China. However, local attitudes are changing and are now starting to vary. It is strongly recommended that you check with your guide for local protocol

Health Requirements
No special vaccinations are required, but those traveling to China from infected areas should have vaccination records available for inspection upon arrival

Currency Exchange
Foreign currency can be exchanged at most banks, hotels, airports and Friendship Stores. However, Whilst credit cards are accepted at most hotels and state run shops, it is strongly recommended that cash is used in smaller hotels restaurants and shops

Passport and visa
A visa is required for Canadian visitors and most other nationalities. If there is a Chinese Embassy or Consulate General near to where you live, you are advised to obtain your Chinese visa in person. Please note however that the Chinese Embassy and Consulate Generals do not have any mailing-in services. If you do not live close to Chinese Embassy or Consulate General, you are strongly advised to send your passport to a travel agent for assistance in obtaining your visa.
